Novice

Design report covers the basics of the project, but leaves some questions, and/or is poorly organized and difficult to follow.

Competent

Design report has a clear structure which is easy to follow, and covers all the main points about the process and final result of the design. The report has some considerations designed in to support scanning.

Proficient

Report clearly separates more important information for the reader from additional details that are provided if needed. The document is organized in a way that makes it easy to look for particular information.

Expert

The report is indistinguishable from professional work.

Presentation Delivery

Novice

Presentation covers all the bases, but could improve with a better structure.

Competent

Presentation is well-structured, rehearsed, has a good flow.

Proficient

Presentation has been structured into a clear story or journey, that the audience can get immersed in and easily follow.

Presenting Design Decisions

Novice

More specific connections are needed to guide the audience to understand why design decisions were made based on user research and testing.

Competent

Presentation draws connections between research findings and design decisions.

Proficient

We left the presentation with almost no questions about why design decisions were made. You made it all seem so obvious!

Expert

It was clear not only what design decisions were made and why, but what possibilities were considered and rejected, so that these can be avoided in the future.

Receiving Feedback

Novice

Effort was made to receive feedback well but was often met with defensiveness or explanation without clear listening and considering.

Competent

Feedback was received well and considered in the project.

Proficient

Not only feedback was well received, but sought for extra feedback.

Expert

Feedback was proactively sought and you made it easy for other people to give you feedback.

Time Management

Novice

Project was planned, but the plan lacked detail, and/or wasn’t well followed.

Competent

Project was planned in a fair amount of detail, and the plan was largely followed. However, at times it may have been preferable to revise the plan instead of sticking to it religiously.

Proficient

Plan is detailed with flexibility in mind, for example with buffers. The plan was well followed, but also reviewed regularly to determine whether changes were needed.

Expert

You demonstrated excellent judgement calls throughout the project regarding necessary changes to the plan.
